Heart Valve Team
The Heart Valve Team at Norwest Private Hospital is a team of medical specialists who collaborate to determine the best treatment plan for a patient diagnosed with Aortic Stenosis. The team regularly attend case conferences to discuss patient rreferrals into the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation program and discuss each case individually looking at the patients history, diagnosis, test results, life expectancy and debate the outcomes of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation compared to the many heart-related interventions in search for the best outcome for the patient and their family. Together they agree on patient-centred care. Once a collaborative decision has been made you will be notified of the outcome and if found suitablke will be given a date for the procedure.
Your treatment plan
After the Norwest Heart Valve Team has decided on the best treatment for you, they will discuss the options with you. You will also have the opportunity to consult with your family and your regular GP about the decision and have the chance to be involved in your treatment plan.
How to access the Norwest Heart Valve Team
The referral pathway is a fundamental part of being assessed by the Norwest Heart Valve Team. If your patient has severe aortic stenosis, we recommend they be referred to the Norwest Heart Valve Team, where an interventional and structural cardiologist trained in TAVI is part of the mix. Once a decision has been made you will receive notification on whether your patient will proceed with TAVI or offer another treatment plan based on their medical needs.
TAVI improves survival rates and quality of life in patients with severe aortic stenosis who have been deemed at high or greater risk for surgery. A specialised Heart Team is founded on a multidisciplinary approach to patient selection, leveraging the expertise of the patient’s Cardiologist, an Interventional Cardiologist, Cardiac Surgeons, HeartValve Clinic Coordinator, General Practitioners, Imaging Specialists, Anesthesiologists, and Cardiac Catheter Lab and O.R. Staff.
